“Construction of the Kars-Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi-Baku railway is an important event”, the Georgian Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli said at the meeting of the government.

He emphasized that works related to the contract on the construction of the railway terminal have been completed. Prime ministers of Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkey will sign the appropriate document soon.

“The reconstruction works on the railway will be launched this year”, he said.

“The Kars-Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi-Baku railway is of great significance for the development of the region”, noted the Georgian Minister for Economic Development Georgi Arvaladze.

At his words, it will play an important role in connecting the Trans-Asia and Trans-Europe railways and be a part of the Europe-Caucasus-Asia transport corridor (TRACECA).

Experts consider that this new line will be the shortest terminal to carry freightage from Asia to Europe. Kazakhstan has already guaranteed to send 10 million tons of goods for a year via this road.
