130 CIS observers to monitor parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan

Head of Staff of the CIS observation mission at the elections to the Milli Majlis of the Azerbaijan Republic Yevgeny Sloboda has met with Chairman of the Central Election Commission of Azerbaijan Mazahir Panahov.
The meeting focused on the course of the election campaign. The head of the mission informed about the procedure and principles of the CIS Observation Mission. According to Sloboda, the task of the mission is to promote free and democratic elections. The mission is expected to involve about 130 observers, including 12 observers will carry out their functions on a long-term basis. During the long-term monitoring the CIS observers inspected the work of the district and precinct election commissions of Baku and Ganja, Samukh and Shamkir regions, examined the documents relating to the election campaign and met with members of the commissions. The observers also got familiar with works connected with preparing the lists of voters. The CIS observation mission includes representatives of the Russian Federation, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, the Interparliamentary Assembly of the CIS member states and the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth.
