23rd EUROPEAN GYMNASTICS CHAMPIONSHIP KICKS OFF IN BAKU

The 23rd European Gymnastics Championship started at the Heydar Aliyev Sports and Concert complex in Baku Friday.

The competition brings together over two hundred athletes from thirty-three countries including such gymnastics talent as Vera Sessina and Olga Kapranova from Russia, Anna Bessonova and Natalya Godunko from Ukraine, Simona Peycheva from Bulgaria and Almudena Sid from Spain.

Azerbaijani fans` hopes are pinned on Dinara Gimatova, Anna Qurbanova, Aliya Qarayeva, Ayelita Khalafova, Aziza Salimbayova, Nigar Mirzayeva and others.

The first day of the continent`s major gymnastic event sees performances in groups B and C.

Azerbaijani gymnasts who are drawn in Group A start competing on Saturday.
