President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has accepted the credentials of the newly-appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arab Republic of Egypt Suzanne Mohamed Gamil.

Ambassador Suzanne Mohamed Gamil reviewed the guard of honor.

Suzanne Mohamed Gamil handed her credentials to President Ilham Aliyev.

President Ilham Aliyev then had a conversation with the Ambassador.

President Ilham Aliyev stressed the importance of the fact that reciprocal visits at different levels between the two countries have become more active recently, adding these contacts were a very positive sign of the cooperation. Touching upon bilateral ties, President Ilham Aliyev noted the significance of defining priorities for moving these ties forward. President Ilham Aliyev expressed hope that the volume of mutual trade would increase. The head of state said Azerbaijan was interested in developing relations with Egypt in all areas, and noted that there was good potential for cooperation in the fields of energy and security. Touching upon the situation in the regions, where the two countries are located, President Ilham Aliyev noted that security was one of the important issues on the global agenda. Highlighting cooperation within international organizations, the head of state expressed hope that Azerbaijan and Egypt would continue to support each other. President Ilham Aliyev wished the Ambassador success in her diplomatic activities in the country.

Ambassador Suzanne Mohamed Gamil conveyed greetings on behalf of President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Abdul Fattah al-Sisi to the head of state. Expressing her satisfaction with the appointment as the Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Suzanne Mohamed Gamil said Azerbaijan and Egypt enjoyed friendly and fraternal ties. She thanked President Ilham Aliyev and the government of Azerbaijan for supporting Egypt in international organizations. The Ambassador paid tribute to Azerbaijan`s national leader Heydar Aliyev, describing him as a great personality and a true leader. She said she has always witnessed that the people of Azerbaijan highly appreciated the achievements of the national leader in state building in a short space of time.

The Ambassador also noted that her country has always supported Azerbaijan on the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

President Ilham Aliyev thanked for the greetings of President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi and asked Suzanne Mohamed Gamil to communicate his greetings to the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt.
