Baku, April 12, AZERTAC
Azerbaijan’s many mountain lakes are at their most picturesque in autumn and spring, surrounded by magnificently colourful foliage that creates truly wonderful scenery.
All of these lakes are easily accessible (though may require some hiking) and well worth a visit - Goygol lake near Ganja, Khanbulan lake in Lankaran, Garanohur lake in Ismayilli, Nohur lake in Gabala and Anbil lake in Shabran, to name a few.
Lying at 940m like a giant mirror reflecting the forest and mountains of the Shabran region, Anbil may be smaller than the other lakes listed here but it is no less picturesque and peaceful.
It is a relatively easy 6km hike via the village of Zeyva to the lake, which greets autumn and spring visitors with a captivating kaleidoscope of colours.
Incidentally, if you visit a few months later you’ll discover completely different scenery, as in winter this lake completely freezes over.
