Ambassador of Great Britain to Azerbaijan Laurie Bristow has paid a two-day visit to the town of Lankaran to familiarize with the southern region and study local economic potential., AzerTAj correspondent reports. During the meeting in the town’s Mayoral Office, the distinguished guest was informed in detail on the measures undertaken under the State program of Socio-economic Development of Regions, as well as exchanged views on economic, social and cultural development of the region.

Then, in the southern Human Rights Resources Center, Bristow met representatives of local NGOs. Head of the Center Esmira Turkhida updated the Ambassador on activities of the regional NGOs, their interaction with executive and law-enforcement bodies, as well as youth organizations.

Addressing the meeting participants, the British diplomat noted in particular that British companies are actively working in oil and gas sector of Azerbaijan. According to him, long-term progress of the country requires development of non-oil sector, as well, and Great Britain would render necessary help to Azerbaijan.

On the same day, Ambassador Laurie Bristow visited tea plant and tinned food factory.
