Chairman of the Liberal-progressive party of Armenia Ovanes Ovanesian lambasted during his 23 August press-conference the government’s current political course.

He stated, in particular, that if this policy continues, no Armenian would stay in the country by 2009. Today, according to him, Armenia is isolated from political and economic processes taking place in the region. The country keeps itself aloof from the EU’s INOGATE and TRACECA projects, and the country won’t benefit from the Iran-Armenia gas pipeline, as well, he said.

The Armenian politician noted with regret that while Azerbaijan and Georgia are integrating into Europe and NATO, his country is considered in the West as a Russia’s vassal. Even though, he stressed, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has stated the other day on recognition of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict exactly on the base of this principle. Recalling that the similar statement had been made by Iranian Speaker, Ovanesian described all the failures as a product of the “Armenia’s stupid foreign policy.”
