Article on January tragedy posted on Russian Murmansk government`s website
Baku, January 21 (AZERTAC). The official website of the government of the Murmansk oblast of the Russian Federation featured an article on the bloody tragedy of 1990. The article titled "In memory of Baku tragedy of 1990" says that bringing Soviet troops into the city was accompanied by special cruelties and unprecedented atrocities which saw hundreds of civilians killed and missing. In total, these actions left 147 civilians killed and over 700 wounded. Among them were women, children, old people, ambulance workers and police.
On that day, a rally of protest was organized by Azerbaijanis in front of the permanent representative office of the government of Azerbaijan in Moscow. Ex-deputy chairman of the USSR Council of Ministers, Heydar Aliyev held a press briefing in the representative office, condemning anti-humanity action of Soviet trops in Azerbaijan.
Author of the article is press secretary of the Murmansk oblast branch of the All-Russian Azerbaijani Congress, member of the Consultative Council for nationalities under the government of the region, Azerbaijani Diaspora activist Alihuseyn Shukurov.
The Murmansk branch prepared a series of events dedicated to the 23rd anniversary of 20 January tragedy. Opening of a photo exposition, book exhibition are scheduled at the branch.
