ATTEMPT TO CAST ASPERSIONS ON AZERBAIJAN-TURKEY FRIENDSHIP DOOMED TO FAILURE
- It would be desirable to learn your opinion about widespread in some mass media of Turkey the messages connected to participation of parliamentary delegation of Azerbaijan on April 29 in voting at session of Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe concerning the resolution under the report on position on Cyprus.
-I am too aware of the message distributed in a number of Turkish press organs. In the said message it is stated that the European deputies have changed some clauses in draft resolution on Cyprus submitted in Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, that the delegation of Azerbaijan ostensibly did not participate in voting, and attempt to combine it with the visit of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to Strasbourg.
First of all, I want to note that during the voting concerning the resolution on Cyprus, in the visit schedule of the President of Republic it was not provided any action demanding participation of the Azerbaijan deputies. On the other hand, on my behalf I can tell that Turkey did not address the Azerbaijan side with the request for rendering of support in the voting connected to the report on Cyprus, carrying extraordinary character. Secondly, the parliamentary delegation of Azerbaijan will consist of the deputies representing various political forces, and they are quite independent in definition of the actions and decision-making on participation in sessions.
Nevertheless, on the data available for me, some members of delegation during discussion were in the hall of session and took part in voting. Unacceptable is for me that the occurring misunderstanding anyhow is coordinated with the visit of President of Azerbaijan and is presented on the press in the distorted, prejudiced form. People, which have distributed the mentioned message, overlook that exactly the European deputies have voted for exception of the resolution from the clause acceptable to the Turkish side.
At last, this artificial sensation lifted around this question forces me to think that some spiteful forces try to undermine Azerbaijan-Turkey friendship, cast aspersions on successful and very fruitful visit of the President of Azerbaijan to Strasbourg. I hope that these forces and this time will not manage to achieve the purpose.
