Azerbaijan explores enhancing railway cooperation with Russia, Iran

As part of its visit to Russia, an Azerbaijani delegation led by Rovshan Rustamov, Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways (ADY), an AZCON Holding company, held bilateral and trilateral meetings with Russian and Iranian railway officials.
The meetings focused on the current state and future expansion of cooperation, with particular emphasis on the development of the International North–South Transport Corridor, improving route efficiency, and increasing freight volumes along this route.
The parties also explored opportunities to accelerate digitalization across the corridor and discussed the implementation of modern digital solutions aimed at improving operational efficiency and connectivity.
The trilateral meeting concluded with the signing of a joint protocol reflecting the participants' shared commitments.
During the bilateral meeting between ADY and Russian Railways, the sides exchanged views on human capital development and discussed cooperation opportunities to strengthen workforce capabilities and professional expertise.
As part of the visit, the ADY representatives also met with Russian cargo owners and logistics stakeholders, presenting the safe and reliable transport services offered through the East–West and North–South transport corridors.
Particular focus was placed on the expanding capabilities of the Astara Terminal, strategically located on the North–South Transport Corridor, and its growing potential for transshipment operations.
Additionally, the Azerbaijani officials presented ADY's Cargo Tracking digital platform, which provides real-time shipment monitoring, enhanced operational transparency, and more efficient freight management. They also showcased other digital solutions designed to improve customer experience and logistics performance.
The parties emphasized that continued cooperation and joint initiatives would contribute significantly to the further development of the International North–South Transport Corridor and strengthen regional transport connectivity.
