Azerbaijan joins cybersecurity agenda at UN Global Dialogue on AI Governance

The message that “the Global Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence Governance is not merely about regulating a technology. It is about defining a shared vision in which technological progress goes hand in hand with human dignity, equity, and sustainable development” was among the key themes discussed at the UN’s first Global Dialogue on AI Governance, held in Geneva, Switzerland.
A delegation from Azerbaijan’s State Service for Special Communication and Information Security participated in the event, held on July 6–7 at the initiative of the United Nations with the support of the International Telecommunication Union and other international partners.
Addressing the event, UN Secretary-General António Guterres stressed that the future of artificial intelligence must be shaped by human oversight and effective governance.
“Artificial intelligence is advancing at a speed that outpaces the institutions designed to guide it. Without governance, it risks deepening inequalities and undermining trust. Innovation needs guardrails. We must ensure that AI is developed safely, fairly, and benefiting all humanity.”
The sessions focused on the security of AI systems, cybersecurity, combating disinformation, the principles governing the use of artificial intelligence in public administration, and the development of a trustworthy AI ecosystem.
The Azerbaijani delegation emphasized that participation in the event was important for promoting the safe application of AI, studying international experience in AI governance, cybersecurity, and digital resilience, monitoring advanced approaches, and expanding international cooperation.
