The idea to open a branch of the famous automaker “KAMAZ” in Azerbaijan was put forward while signing the agreement on economic, scientific-technical and cultural cooperation within the frameworks of President of Tatarstan Mintimir Shaymiyev’s visit to Azerbaijan in 1996, “Azmotors Co. Ltd” said. The initiative to assemble large-capacity trucks was also discussed in the course of the official visit of President of Russia Vladimir Putin to Azerbaijan in 2001. Later in autumn 2001, Minister of Economic Development of Azerbaijan and KAMAZ director general signed an agreement on opening the motor workshop at the engineering plant named after B. Sardarov. The first truck was assembled on January 16 2002. In total, the workshop rolled out 82 trucks in 2002 against 150 in 2003.

Azerbaijani KAMAZs are competitive. The demand for the trucks increasing grows in the market. Therefore, Azmotor Co. Ltd officers plan to assemble 200 trucks in 2004 and 500 in 2005.
