Azerbaijan to mark World Habitat Day, says Foreign Minister


Azerbaijan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov has met with Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) Maimunah Mohd Sharif on the sidelines of the 78th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
FM Bayramov underscored successful and productive cooperation established between Azerbaijan and UN-Habitat, saying that the country had taken part in a number of meetings organized by the UN-Habitat and its partners, including the 11th Session of the World Urban Forum, as well as High-Level Meeting on the Implementation of the New Urban Agenda.
FM Bayramov also lauded organization of the Azerbaijan National Urban Forum on the “Sustainable Development Goals and the New Urban Agenda as engines of post-conflict reconstruction and rehabilitation” in partnership with the UN-HABITAT in October last year.
Moreover, the minister emphasized that Azerbaijan will host a number of events together with the UN-Habitat this year, within the “Urban planning Week” starting from September 29, including the 2nd Azerbaijan National Urban Forum on the “Resilient urban economies. Cities as drivers of growth and recovery” held on September 29- October 1 in Baku and Zangilan. He also said that the country will host its first-ever World Habitat Day.
The Azerbaijani FM also briefed the UN-Habitat Executive Director about the reconstruction and restoration works carried out in the liberated territories following the 44-day Patriotic War, stressing the successful cooperation established with the UN-Habitat in this regard.
The sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest.
