Azerbaijan, Türkiye explore integration of artificial intelligence into legal sphere

Azerbaijani Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) Sabina Aliyeva met with Dean of Ankara Medipol University, a well-known Turkish lawyer, international human rights expert, Prof. Ergin Ergül, and Chairman of the Board of the Mediation Council Nadir Adilov.
The meeting discussed the prospects for cooperation in the field of protection of human rights and freedoms, development of the mediation institution, study and application of international experience, as well as legal literacy.
The parties exchanged views on integration of artificial intelligence into legal sphere in modern times, existing opportunities in this area and ethical concerns.
The Ombudsman emphasized that the application of AI technologies creates new opportunities both in terms of protecting human rights and strengthening public control mechanisms. She noted that the development and adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) must be aligned with human rights principles, ensuring that AI technologies do not undermine fundamental freedoms but rather complement existing legal and ethical frameworks.
Professor Ergin Ergül presented his newly published scientific work entitled “AI and Law” (“Yapay zeka və hukuk”), which he authored and translated into Azerbaijani. He shared an insight into the central theme of the book, noting that the book highlights the protection of human rights against the backdrop of modern challenges, the development trends of international law, and innovative approaches.
He expressed his gratitude to Ombudsman Sabina Aliyeva for her support in the publication of the book in Azerbaijani.
The meeting concluded with a mutual exchange of views on legal awareness initiatives and future cooperation.
