AZERBAIJANI MILITARY-ATHLETES GRABBED FOUR MEDALS IN WORLD GAMES
The Military World Games kicked off in Hyderabad, India. The Azerbaijani military athletes took the 31st place in the authoritative competition that brought together representatives from more than 107 countries.
The press conference devoted to results of the competition, was held Wednesday in the Central Military Sport Club of Azerbaijan.
The chief of the Central Military sport club, colonel Natig Aliyev addressing the conference, told of success achieved by Azerbaijani militaries in the World Games.
Azerbaijani athletes competed in 16 kinds of sport and grabbed three silver and one bronze medals.
Owners of silver medals became Elbrus Mammadov (the Greece-Rome wrestling), Namig Sevdimov (free-style wrestling) and Tofig Ahmedov (boxing).
Speaking about the success achieved during last four years in the field of military sports, N. Aliyev emphasized, that they have been achieved thanks to constant attention and care of President Ilham Aliyev shown towards military sport.
Having informed, that only in 2007 Azerbaijan military-athletes have participated almost in 30 international and regional competitions, N. Aliyev told, that the question on carrying out of the 2015 World Games in Azerbaijan is on the agenda. In this connection Baku is going to nominate. The head of military sports emphasized, that the main objective is to win as much as possible licenses for Bejing-2008 Summer Olympic Games and to increase number of military-athletes in an Olympic team of Azerbaijan.
