Azerbaijan`s Prime Minister Artur Rasizade met Wednesday with Director General of UNESCO Koichiro Matsuura who is in Baku to attend the organization`s Regional Literacy Conference.

Rasizade informed the UNESCO chief of work done to develop education system in Azerbaijan, including adoption of ten education programs and construction of over 1,500 schools over the past three years.

The UNESCO Director General praised efforts made by the Azeri government to preserve the country`s cultural heritage.

Azerbaijan`s conflict with Armenia over the Nagorno-Karabakh was also discussed during the conversation, and Artur Rasizade said a large number of Azerbaijan`s cultural monuments has been destroyed by Armenians during the ongoing dispute.
