In particular, Mr. Pascual described the meeting of the working group as very fruitful. We discussed development of economic cooperation between our two countries, and its priority directions, he said. Carlos Pascual noted as well that although the US had reduced the total volume of aid to countries of this region, that to Azerbaijan as priority country, had been increased - over 70 million in 2004 vs. 60 mln in the last fiscal year.
According to Mr. Pascual, the meeting participants have also discussed development of banking sphere in Azerbaijan, privatization of the International Bank of Azerbaijan, management of oil revenues, registration of non-governmental organizations and companies, creation of competitive environment for the companies wanting to be involved in Caspian shipping, and Azerbaijan’s joining the World Trade Organization.
In conclusion, Department of State coordinator for US Assistance to Europe and Eurasia Carlos Pascual and Ambassador of the United States to Azerbaijan Reno Harnish answered the questions from journalists.
