Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan receives Azerbaijani delegation

Baku, July 8, AZERTAC

A delegation from Azerbaijan led by Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov paid a working visit to Turkmenistan.

During the visit, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov received the Azerbaijani delegation. The meeting featured an exchange of views on further strengthening relations between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan based on the principles of friendship, brotherhood, and mutual respect, diversifying economic cooperation, promoting joint initiatives, and expanding regional trade and economic cooperation.

National Leader of the Turkmen People and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also received Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov.

The meeting emphasized the dynamic development of Azerbaijan-Turkmenistan relations, driven by the political will of the two countries' leaders. The sides noted that last month's state visit by the President of Turkmenistan to Azerbaijan, accompanied by a large delegation, and the documents signed with the participation of the two heads of state had made an important contribution to elevating bilateral cooperation to a new level.

The sides discussed priority areas of economic cooperation, large-scale projects aimed at diversifying bilateral cooperation, and new partnership opportunities.

During the visit, Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov met with Guvanch Agajanov. The sides noted that the rich energy potential and natural resources of both countries provide a solid foundation for the development of economic cooperation. They discussed prospects for transporting energy resources to international markets, improving the legal and contractual framework in this field, and implementing joint energy projects.

The favorable geographical location of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan offers significant advantages for the development of international transport corridors. Highlighting the growing importance of transport and energy security on the global agenda, the sides emphasized the contribution of both countries to regional and global energy and transport security.

Alongside economic cooperation, the sides also underlined the importance of developing humanitarian ties. In this regard, they noted that the Days of Turkmen Culture held in Azerbaijan last year contributed to further strengthening friendly relations between the two peoples.

As part of the working visit, Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov met with Nokerguly Atagulyev, Turkmen co-chair of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission. During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on enhancing the effectiveness of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission, expanding trade and investment relations, developing cooperation in industry, transport, infrastructure, tourism, and other areas, and advancing projects of mutual interest.

The 9th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan was held as part of the working visit. In his remarks, Mikayil Jabbarov, Azerbaijani Co-Chair of the Commission, emphasized that the strategic course defined by the two countries' leaders continues to guide the development of bilateral relations across all areas. He noted that the Joint Intergovernmental Commission serves as an important platform for the systematic expansion of cooperation in trade, investment, industry, energy, transport, logistics, and other sectors. Azerbaijan stands ready to deepen cooperation by promoting mutual investment, strengthening ties between the two countries' business communities, and implementing joint projects. The economy minister also expressed gratitude to the Turkmen side for the construction of the mosque complex in the city of Fuzuli as a fraternal contribution, describing the project as a vivid example of the friendly and brotherly relations between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan.

Nokerguly Atagulyev said bilateral relations are based on mutual trust and strategic partnership. He noted that the Joint Intergovernmental Commission plays an important role in expanding cooperation into new areas, accelerating the implementation of existing projects, and deepening economic ties. Atagulyev also expressed gratitude for Azerbaijan's gift of the Dostlug oil tanker, saying the initiative contributes to further strengthening relations between the two countries.

During the meeting, the sides highlighted the initiative to establish a bilateral Business Council to expand economic cooperation and diversify export routes between the two countries.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the sides signed a protocol providing for expanded cooperation in trade, energy, transport, agriculture, food security, environmental protection, water infrastructure, and other priority areas.

As part of the working visit, Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov also met with Rashid Meredov. The meeting discussed prospects for expanding economic dialogue and business cooperation between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan. The sides also exchanged views on cooperation in the energy sector, the implementation of joint projects, and other areas of mutual interest.
