China-Azerbaijan Youth Forum held in Beijing

The “First China-Azerbaijan Youth Forum: High-Level Translation and Intercultural Communication Seminar” took place at Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU).
Organized by BFSU’s Faculty of Asian Studies and the Department of Azerbaijani Language, the event brought together around 60 scholars, students, young researchers, and translation experts from over 20 universities in both countries.
Forum chair Agshin Aliyev, head of the Azerbaijani Language Department, noted that Azerbaijan–China relations are rapidly developing along a strategic path defined by both countries’ leaders. He highlighted that President Ilham Aliyev’s recent state visit to China led to the signing of a joint declaration, emphasizing education and language cooperation. The forum aimed to foster youth dialogue and strengthen intercultural ties.
Dean of the School of Asian Studies Su Yingying said the forum contributes to exchanges between Chinese and Azerbaijani youth and promotes cultural and educational cooperation under the “Belt and Road” initiative. She noted that Azerbaijani has been taught at BFSU for nearly a decade and plays a key role in boosting academic ties.
Counselor of the Azerbaijani Embassy in China Ibrahim Ibrahimov underlined the long-standing friendship between the two nations, now elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership. He described the forum as a vital platform for youth cooperation and stressed the global importance of intercultural communication and translation.
Key speakers included Yao Bin and Li Changshuan from the BFSU School of Translation and Interpretation, and Aqshin Aliyev, who discussed cultural translation challenges between Chinese and Azerbaijani. The forum also featured presentations by scholars from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and universities from both countries.
Participants received certificates at the end of the event. AZERTAC and AzTV correspondents were recognized for their regular media support.
Notably, BFSU, one of China’s top universities teaching 101 foreign languages, launched its Azerbaijani Language Department in 2016. Since 2018, Azerbaijani has been offered as a major subject with approval from China’s Ministry of Education.
