COE DELEGATION’S VISIT TO BAKU ENDED
Delegation of the Council of Europe led by Robert Palmer, head of the COE Directorate of Culture, Cultural and Natural Heritage paid visit to Baku from 6 to 10 March, press-service of Azerbaijani Ministry of Culture and Tourism said. Aim of the visit is to exchange views with Azerbaijani side on preparation for the COE Ministers of Culture conference to be held in Baku, November 2008.
During the meeting with the Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfaz Garayev, COE delegation underlined that conducting of the conference in Baku will be a momentous event. Representatives from Islamic countries and organizations are expected to be invited to the conference along with those from European countries. Mr. Garayev offered to sign agreement about cooperation between the Council of Europe and ISESCO during the conference.
On the whole, conference, which is to be dedicated to the intercultural dialogue, will establish groundwork of the “Baku process”, i.e. system of new relationships in the field of culture in Europe. The sides agreed to conduct the conference in Baku, from 19 to 21 November 2008. Besides, they decided to create the working group consisting of the representatives of the Council of Europe, Azerbaijani Ministry of Culture and Tourism, ISESCO and ALECSO and to hold its first meeting in Strasbourg, on May 2008.
COE delegation also met with Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Mahmud Mammadguliyev, head of Azerbaijani delegation to PACE Samad Seyidov, representative of COE Secretary General to Azerbaijan Denis Bribosia and other officials.
As part of this visit, Mr. Palmer also familiarized himself with “Ichari Shahar” (Old City), some museums and visited the Alley of Martyrs.
