COMMISSIONER ON HUMAN RIGHTS ELECTED AS MEMBER OF ASIAN OMBUDSMEN’S ASSOCIATION
The conference participants heard and discussed the reports on the following themes: “State-citizen Relationship”, “Role of Ombudsman in Providing Civil Right in Asia”, and “Ombudsman and Involvement of Citizens”.
Mrs. Elmira Suleymanova reported on legal reforms implemented in Azerbaijan for the past years, steps towards human rights protection, improvement of legislation, authorities and activities of ombudsman. She also distributed the English version of the text of her statement on Azerbaijani Genocide Day - 31 March - amongst the conference participants. Mrs. Suleymanova gave detailed answers to the their questions in the matter.
During the same days, a meeting of the General Assembly of the Asian Ombudsmen’s Association was held to discuss the results of the conference, and consider organizational issues. Ombudsman of Pakistan Mr. Imtiyaz Ahmad Sahibzadeh was re-elected as president of the Association. The Assembly unanimously supported the proposal to elect the Commissioner on Human Rights in Azerbaijan Republic as member of the Association.
