EUROPEAN PROSECUTOR GENERALS’ CONFERENCE HELD IN GERMANY
Azerbaijan was represented at the event by a delegation led by deputy Prosecutor General of the country E. Nuriyev.
The conference focused on acquisition of official status, application of principles of law and advisability while state prosecuting, role of prosecutor’s office in the international organizations, its functions other than criminal prosecution, reinforcement of cooperation between the prosecutor’s offices and other issues.
Head of the Azerbaijan delegation E. Nuriyev reported on the activity of prosecutor’s office in Azerbaijan, noting its fuctions in the country had been brought in conformity with the European standards. According to the new law, he said, the prosecutor’s office is entitled to advance a civil suit and join its consideration only in event that it is required by the national interests or an appeal is made by the state-owned structures. Mr. E. Nuriyev set out legal rationale in support of this point.
Members of the Azerbaijani delegation have held meetings and opinions exchange with the leaders of other participating delegations, as well as heads of prosecutor’s offices of Georgia, Poland, Belgium, Bosnia, Latvia, Slovenia, Slovakia, Italy, Moldova and Ukraine.
Finally, the participants of the event decided to conduct the next annual conference in the capital of Hungary Budapest in 2005, and in St. Petersburg, Russia in 2006.
