French parliamentary election turnout reaches 19.24 per cent

Turnout in Sunday's first round of French parliamentary election voting had reached 19.24 percent by midday (1000 GMT), the interior ministry said, below the 21.06 percent recorded at the same time of day during the first-round ballot in 2012, according to Reuters.
French lawmakers are elected in two rounds. To win in the first round, the candidate must obtain an absolute majority, but no less than 25 percent of the votes of all voters registered in the constituency. The second round of the elections is scheduled for June 18.
