“From Destruction to Renewal: Urban Narratives and Media Responsibility” PANEL DISCUSSION

On July 14, the 4th Shusha Global Media Forum featured second panel discussion titled “From Destruction to Renewal: Urban Narratives and Media Responsibility.”
Moderated by Orkhan Amashov, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the AnewZ TV channel, the discussion explored the post-conflict and post-crisis urban reconstruction, underscoring that the urban planning policies and the presentation of architectural heritage to society play a decisive role in social and cultural rebuilding. In this regard, the session emphasized that the media becomes a strategic instrument facilitating trust-based public engagement in the restoration process.
The discussion noted that the transition from devastation to revival does not only involve technical and economic aspects; it is a complex process encompassing the stages of social, cultural, and psychological recovery as well. In the urban development agenda, the professional and ethical stance of the media contributes to the formation of balanced and inclusive narratives, strengthens active participation of society in reconstruction, and enables the revitalization of cities to be grounded in public trust.
The session included Yusuf Özhan Vice President and Editor-in-Chief of Türkiye’s Anadolu Agency; and Rufat Hamzayev, Executive Director of the AnewZ TV channel.
In his remarks, Yusuf Özhan stressed the importance of journalism, describing it as a bridge between the past and the future.
In turn, Rufat Hamzayev noted that the media should not only cover destruction, but also sustainability, and restoration.
