GARA GARAYEV COMMEMORATED IN NEW YORK
A special event has been held in New York to commemorate prominent Azerbaijan composer Gara Garayev.
Gara Garayev wrote nearly 110 pieces, including ballets, operas, symphonic and chamber pieces, piano solos, cantatas, songs and marches.
His ballet "Seven Beauties" (1952)) opened a new stage in the history of Azerbaijani music.
The event was attended by deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism A. Valiyev as well as representatives of diplomatic corps and Azerbaijani and Jewish communities in New York.
The participants spoke of Gara Garayev’s life and stressed the important role he played in making the Azerbaijan music known to the world.
The event continued with a concert performed by Azerbaijan People’s Artists Farhad Badalbayli, Azer Zeynalov and Gulnaz Ismayilova, violinist of the Turkish Bilkent University Togrul Qaniyev and Azerbaijani musicians residing in the USA Valida Rasulova, Kamilla Mammadova and Ruslan Agababayev.
