INTERNATIONAL FORUM ON CASPIAN HELD IN KAZAKHSTAN
200 representatives from 10 countries of the world, including deputy foreign ministers of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Russia – Khalaf Khalafov, Kairat Abuseitov and Victor Kalyuzhny took part at the Forum.
At the international forum, discussed was the legal status of the Caspian, regional cooperation between the Caspian littoral countries, realization of strategically important projects in the field of use of power resources, including questions of protection of flora and fauna of the Caspian Sea.
In his statement, Khalaf Khalafov has noted that investments would be enclosed in forthcoming three years on development of oil and gas sector of the Caspian, construction of oil and gas pipelines at a rate of 10 billion dollars. Creation of Oil Fund will provide stable and all-around development of the country. Azerbaijan attaches great importance to expansion and strengthening of the international cooperation in the field of development and transportation of power resources of the Caspian region. Now, 34 large transnational companies of 16 states have put investments into this branch of economy of Azerbaijan. Commissioning of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan MEP and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline will allow to provide development of economy of the states of the Caspian region and world economic safety.
The deputy minister has expressed hope that in 2004 Kazakhstan would join the BTC project.
At the Forum, it has been marked that the second summit of heads of states of the Caspian coastal states would be held in Teheran in the second half of this year, and the next session of special working group on definition of the legal status of the Caspian - in Kazakhstan.
Ambassador of Azerbaijan in Kazakhstan Latif Gandilov took part at the Forum.
