Iran: Rouhani sends letters to Saudi and Bahraini monarchs

Iranian government spokesman Ali Rubaie said on Monday (November 4, 2019) that President Hassan Rouhani had sent letters to the monarchs of Saudi Arabia and Bahrain without giving further details about their content, saying only that they are about peace in the region.
The spokesman said in his weekly press conference that the messages focused on peace and stability in the region, according to the Iranian news agency (IRNA). "We believe that there can be many bilateral relations in the region and America's pressures should not lead to the separation of neighboring countries from each other," he said.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi said on Saturday that Rouhani had sent to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Iraq the full text of Iran's initiative to secure maritime routes in the region, known as "Hormuz Peace." Rouhani outlined the initiative in a speech to the UN General Assembly.
Mousavi called on the Gulf Arab states and Iraq to "join forces together" to implement this initiative. He revealed in press statements that this affirms Tehran's serious stance and the importance it attaches to the role of regional countries in establishing stability in the Gulf region, according to the Iranian Fars News Agency.
