Japan, China foreign chiefs to have talks on Thursday

Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida and his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, are set to have talks in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday to lay the groundwork for a possible visit to China by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe in September, informed JIJI PRESS.
The meeting will take place on the sidelines of a series of regional gatherings related to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, including ministerial talks of the ASEAN Regional Forum.
At his meeting with Wang, Kishida is expected to convey his country's concern over China's gas development near the so-called intermediate line between the two countries in the East China Sea and call for resuming talks on joint development.
On Abe's upcoming statement to mark the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II, Kishida is likely to explain again the prime minister's intention of upholding his predecessors' statements on history issues on the whole.
The Japanese and Chinese foreign chiefs may also discuss the timing of a bilateral summit, as China has invited Abe to attend an event on Sept. 3 to mark the 70th anniversary of the country's victory in its war against Japan.
