Jeyhun Bayramov: Azerbaijan, Russia plan to resume direct flights on several routes

Direct flights between Azerbaijan and Russia on several routes, which were suspended after the AZAL plane crash in December 2024, are expected to resume soon, said Jeyhun Bayramov, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister, during a joint press conference held with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov following the talks in Moscow.
According to Minister Bayramov, during the talks, the sides held elaborate discussions on the current issues of trade, economic and investment cooperation. The FM noted that the last meeting of the intergovernmental commission was held in April, adding that the next meeting is scheduled to be organized by the year end.
Highlighting the importance of continuing regular contacts, FM Bayramov mentioned that the parties reached a preliminary agreement to hold a meeting between Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk in September.
Touching on the regional agenda, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov reaffirmed Azerbaijan's unwavering support for the "3+3" cooperation platform. He recalled that it was Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev who put forward an initiative to establish this format in 2021.
The Minister stated that the situation in the South Caucasus had changed considerably since the platform started operating. He further added that so far, three meetings have been held in the "3+3" format in Moscow, Tehran and Istanbul.
“We do believe that there is a demand for this format, and it is important, however the participating countries should discuss all issues of mutual interest to our states,” FM Bayramov emphasized.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov also recalled that Baku had proposed hosting the next meeting following the third meeting of the platform in 2024, emphasizing that this proposal remains valid.
