LEADERSHIP OF ARMENIA INCREASINGLY MOVES AWAY FROM EXISTING REALITIES, KHAZAR IBRAHIM
We are getting the impression that the leadership of Armenia is increasingly moving away from existing realities, and, it most likely comes from the pre-election situation in this country, Khazar Ibrahim, spokesman to the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan said at the regular briefing, commenting on the recent statements of Head of Armenia’s Foreign Ministry Vardan Oskanian.
“For example, Armenian Minister stated that there allegedly was the ethnic purge on 26-28 February 1988 in Sumgait, causing the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh,”- said Ibrahim
K. Ibrahim said that Azerbaijani citizens were cracked down and killed by Armenians long before Sumgait events.
“As early as in late 1987, Armenian authorities cracked down on Azerbaijanis who lived there. Soviet of People`s Deputies of the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous region made a statement demanding to include Nagorno-Karabakh into Armenian SSR. Earlier that year, Armenians killed two Azerbaijani youngsters,”- Ibrahim underlined, stressing that above-mentioned events took place before those in Sumgait.
According to the Press Secretary, such Armenian leadership’s statements have a negative impact on the process of negotiations on the peaceful resolution of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh.
