MEETING IN MILLI MAJLIS
The speaker said the policy pursued by national leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev had become favorable conditions for establishment of friendly relations between the two countries. According to him, the successful continuation of that policy by President Ilham Aliyev promotes further expanding and deepening of these relations. Setting up in the US Congress of the working group on development of relationship with the Milli Majlis, and the second visit of the US delegation to Baku points to rapid development of our links, Mr. Alasgarov said.
Then, the Milli Majlis Chairman informed the guests in detail on Azerbaijan’s role in combating terrorism, roots and consequences of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, and the fair position of official Baku in the problem’s settlement.
Mr. Murtuz Alasgarov expressed gratitude to the US Government for the assistance in realization of the projects in the South Caucasus and Azerbaijan.
Congressman Curt Weldon noted that the US Congress shows growing interest towards Azerbaijan, that representatives of both parties had arrived in Baku this time. The main goal of the visit, according to the congressmen, is to hold an exchange of views on development of the existing links. He announced the intention to conduct meeting between the Milli Majlis and the US Congress in Washington this year. Mr. Weldon expressed gratitude to the Government of Azerbaijan for the participation in anti-terror operations.
Ambassador of the United State to Azerbaijan Mr. Reno Harnish also participating in the meeting said his country is seeking the ways of solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The diplomat added as well that the reports on alleged American companies’ investments in Nagorno-Karabakh had nothing to do with reality.
