Mexico’s leading radio channel highlights Armenia’s recent military provocations against Azerbaijan
Baku, September 15, AZERTAC
Mexico’s leading “El Heraldo” radio channel has aired an interview with Azerbaijani Ambassador to the country Mammad Talibov who highlighted the large-scale provocation committed by the Armenian armed forces on the Azerbaijan-Armenia state border.
In his interview, the ambassador said that Azerbaijan has put an end to the 30-year long occupation and liberated its territories from the Armenian occupation in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions in 2020. He mentioned that despite this, Armenia still continued its criminal acts, and on the night of September 12, the sabotage groups of the Armenian armed forces, acting in the dark, made use of the mountainous terrain of the territory and the existing ravines in different directions to mine the areas between the positions of the units of the Azerbaijan Armed Forces, and fired intensively at the positions of the Azerbaijan Army.
Noting that the resolute retaliatory measures were taken by the Azerbaijani Army against provocations of the Armenian armed forces, Talibov pointed out that 50 Azerbaijani servicemen were martyred while preventing this provocation.
“Unfortunately, Armenia has been constantly committing such kind of provocations and behind these acts lie the intention of Armenian leadership to sabotage the peace talks, and the territorial claims against Azerbaijan,” the ambassador added.
The Azerbaijani ambassador said that on the contrary, Azerbaijan has always put forward peace initiatives.
Emphasizing that in accordance with the provisions of the trilateral Statement of November 2020, the Russian peacekeeping forces had been deployed in the territories of Azerbaijan, the ambassador said that the Armenian armed forces, contrary to the Statement, had not yet withdrawn from the Azerbaijani lands.
Talibov also recalled the document submitted by Azerbaijan on five principles for ensuring peace in the region and establishing interstate relations with Armenia, noting that the most important point of these principles is mutual recognition of respect for the sovereignty, territorial integrity, inviolability of internationally recognized borders of each other.
“The recent provocation committed by Armenia against Azerbaijan is a gross violation of the fundamental norms and principles of the international law, and these acts completely contradict the ongoing normalization and peace process, as well as pose threat to the security and stability in the Caucasus region,” the Azerbaijani ambassador concluded.
