MINISTER OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT MEETS EBRD PRESIDENT
During the meeting, the Minister expressed satisfaction with the today’s level of cooperation between Azerbaijan and EBRD, pointed out the good opportunities to expand these links, and informed the guest on how the projects financed by the bank are being realized.
President of the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development Jean Lemierre highly appraised the economic reforms implemented in Azerbaijan, and stressed that his structure is also interested in the expanding cooperation with Azerbaijan. He said in particular that the Board of Directors’ approval of the Hajigabul-Kurdamir motor road reconstruction project is scheduled for June, whereupon its implementation would start. The Bank, according to him, is expected to grant $41 mln credit to this end.
Minister of Economic Development suggested more active involvement of EBRD in implementation of the State program of social and economic development of regions, and expanding in this connection of financing risk project without the state guarantee.
Mr. Jean Lemierre perceived the suggestions positively, and emphasized the Bank’s interest in realization of projects in agrarian, telecommunication and legal sectors. He announced that in the framework of assistance to the countries in initial phase of transition period, a credit line totaling 20 mln euros for small and medium enterprises would be opened through banks.
The parties agreed to continue discussions in future.
