Moscow, Rome examine options of connecting Italy to TurkStream
Baku, October 25, AZERTAC
Moscow and Rome are exploring options of connecting Italy to the TurkStream gas pipeline, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday after talks with Prime Minister of Italy Giuseppe Conte, TASS reported.
"Everything is possible in this sphere [supplies of Russian gas to Italy]," the Russian leader said. "We examine all opportunities," Putin noted. "Including connection of Italy to the TurkStream via Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary and Greece," he added.
Cooperation options were also discussed in connection with forthcoming increase of deliveries over the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, although "we did not discuss the Nord Stream 2 directly," Putin said. The pipeline system that will take gas from the Nord Stream 2 is the joint Russian-Italian venture, he added.
"Italy should be interested in implementation of the Nord Stream 2 in this sense," Putin added.
New projects of Russian gas deliveries to Europe are not aimed against any country, including Ukraine, the president said. "We are discussing all the possible options [of Russian gas supplies] and I would like to stress once again - they are not aimed against any third country, specifically not aimed to infringe upon interests of Ukraine," the Russian President said.
The goal of these projects is to support growing demands of the European economy, Putin added.
