PARTICIPANTS OF SILK ROAD BICYCLE TRIP PROJECT GIVE PRESS CONFERENCE
Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism and participants of the Silk Road Bicycle Trip project held a joint press conference August 27 at the Baku Business Center.
A film in English reflecting Azerbaijan’s history, cultural heritage, and development of tourism was shown.
According to Mahir Gahramanov, chief of the internal tourism development section at the Ministry, the cyclists set out from Istanbul for Georgia in early August, and then rode to Azerbaijan moving along Balakan-Shaki-Gabala-Shamakhy route. A team of 45 cyclists from 11 countries has visited historical and cultural monuments in Baku for two days.
Head of the project Henry Gold said a total of 56 people participated in the project. The youngest cyclist is 21 years old while the oldest one 73 years old.
According to H. Gold, the major aim of the trip is to establish contacts with people, see the beautiful places in the world, and share the impressions with fellow countrymen. Cycclists cover 120 km a day.
The cyclists moved on to Turkmenistan on August 27. The trip will end November 18 in Beijing.
