Poland elected to UN Human Rights Council

Poland was elected to the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) on Thursday. It will hold the post for two years from January 1, 2020, according to The First News.
The UN Human Rights Council, which meets throughout the year at the UN Office in Geneva, is an international body within the UN system, made up of 47 States, and is responsible for promoting and protecting human rights around the world.
Krzysztof Szczerski, the Polish president's chief aide, wrote on Twitter that the election of Poland to the UNHRC was another international success.
"After work on the UN Security Council, we will start new assignments. I thank the Polish diplomats who, together with the President of the Republic of Poland, strove for this election. Again, we have shown that we are effective!" Szczerski tweeted on Thursday morning.
