PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV ATTENDS VICTORY DAY CELEBRATIONS
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Friday, attended a ceremony on the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of the victory over fascism at the Great Patriotic War.
He joined war veterans and representatives of the Baku public by the tombstone of one of the renowned commanders of the Great Patriotic War, Hero of the Soviet Union, Major-General Hazi Aslanov.
The President warmly greeted the veterans and congratulated them on the holiday.
He laid a wreath at the tombstone and remembered the General and other sons of the Azerbaijani people heroically died at the WWII.
The President had warm conversations with the veterans and General Hazi Aslanov’s family members and relatives. He was curious about their problems and needs.
Also present at the ceremony were Prime Minister Artur Rasizade, Speaker of the Milli Majlis Ogtay Asadov, Chief of the Presidential Administration Ramiz Mehdiyev and other officials.
Azerbaijan sent some 600,000 sons and daughters to the war. About half of them died in battles. More than 130 were named Hero of the Soviet Union, while over 170,000 were awarded various orders and medals.
During the war, Azerbaijan produced three fourth of the total amount of oil done in the Soviet Union, and 85-90 percent of aviation petrol and high-quality lubricants.
