PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV RECEIVES DEFENSE MINISTER OF KIRGHIZSTAN
During the meeting, President Ilham Aliyev described the relations between Azerbaijan and Kirghizstan as successfully developing in the spirit of friendship and fraternity. He noted that he had a comprehensive exchange of views on the perspectives of the bilateral relations with President of Kirghizstan Askar Akayev during their meeting at the international conference in last December. We want to develop our cooperation with Kirghizstan in all sphere including military one, and the signing of agreement by the Defense Ministers of the two countries is a very positive step in this direction, the Head of State said.
President Ilham Aliyev expressed confidence that the visit by the Kirghiz Defense Minister will contribute to further rapprochement between the two countries and peoples, who are united with common religion, customs and traditions, as well as pursue independent policy and enjoy mutual support in the international organization.
He asked the guest to convey his greetings and best wishes to President Askar Akayev.
Defense Minister Esen Topoyev noted in his turn that during his pre-visit meeting with President Askar Akayev, he latter had also asked him to pass his greetings and best wishes on to President Ilham Aliyev. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, relations between our countries were temporarily broken, but now we are reestablishing our relations and creating a new “pyramid” of the Turkish speaking states.
General Topoyev also told of the processes taking place in the Central Asian Region, and participation of his country in the anti-terror coalition. Touching upon his activity in the framework of CIS and negotiations and agreement signed with Defense Minister of Azerbaijan, the Minister shared his impressions on visiting the Azerbaijan Higher Military School, and said he would apply this practice in his country. Esen Topoyev also asked the President to create conditions for Kirghiz officers to study at this school.
President Ilham Aliyev has given relevant instructions to Azerbaijan Defense Minister attending the meeting.
The Head of State stressed the high level of teaching process in the Higher Military School, which according to him, turns out highly skilled military personnel. The President noted that this process began as early as 1970s when nation-wide leader of Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev founded the Specialized School named after General Nakhchivanski. Army building has been very intensive during the last decade, and today we have strong, disciplined and well-trained Army, President Ilham Aliyev finalized.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Defense of the Azerbaijan Republic Colonel-General Safar Abiyev.
