PRESIDENT OF AZERBAIJAN ILHAM ALIYEV RECEIVES LEADERSHIP OF WRITERS’ UNION
Touching upon preparation for the Congress of the Writers’ Union, President Ilham Aliyev described the upcoming event as a very remarkable one in social life of Azerbaijan. The President noted that activity of the Writers’ Union has been very successful during the last years: special attention has been paid to young writers; a lot of work has been done. I hope the Congress will be successful and will mark the beginning of a new stage in the Union’s activity, the Head of State said in particular.
President Ilham Aliyev pointed out as well that the government, in its turn, is also endeavoring to provide better conditions for the writers’ creative activity.
He further said: you know well that in 1970s, Heydar Aliyev was showing constant concern about writers, Censorship and certain ideological limits existed then; we were living in the Soviet Union and naturally, it was difficult to exceed these ideological limits. Despite all the prohibitions, however, Heydar Aliyev always defended our writers.
The head of state emphasized as well that after Azerbaijan started to live as an independent state, complete independence has been provided to creative workers. Our national leader Heydar Aliyev has shown constant concern about writers, Writers’ Union, and generally, about the workers of science, culture and literature. And I will do my best to continue this policy, President Ilham Aliyev noted.
Expressing gratitude for the meeting and the warm words, Chairman of the Writers’ Union, People’s writer Anar said: our generation have felt Heydar Aliyev’s attention, concern and protection since the very beginning of its literary activity. At that time, those who came to Azerbaijan from Moscow, Baltic States and saw what kind of works had been published in Azerbaijan, as well as concern about the writers, were very impressed by the conditions created for the writers in the country. This system was created by our national leader Heydar Aliyev.
The Chairman of the Union expressed confidence that the upcoming Congress will be held in very healthy atmosphere, and stressed that 99% of the Azerbaijani writers are healthy progressive forces - the people who care for our national interests.
Touching on the course of preparation for the Congress, the People’s writer announced that during the event it is also expected to mark 70th anniversary of the Writers’ Union and put forward proposals for solving problems of the young generation of writers.
