PRESIDENT OF ISLAMIC REPUBLIC OF IRAN SEYED MOHAMMAD KHATAMI’S TRIP TO GYANJA
President of Islamic Republic of Iran Mohammad Khatami was seen off by Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Artur Rasizadeh, Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov and other officials.
During the trip, President Khatami will be accompanied by first deputy Prime Minister Yagub Eyubov, deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov and other officials.
On the same day, the Iranian delegation led by President Mohammad Khatami arrived in Gyanja, where was warmly welcomed by the city authorities and representatives of intelligentsia.
From the airport decorated with the state flags of Azerbaijan and Iran, the motorcade arrived at the Mausoleum of genial Azerbaijani poet sheik Nizami. President Khatami and his delegation members were provided by detailed information of the history of the Mausoleum and restoration work carried out here during the last years.
President Khatami laid a wreath at the pedestal of the Mausoleum and visited the tomb of the genial master of words.
The guest then viewed architectural composition based on the Nizami Gyanjevi’s works created in the open air, and photographed against the background of the Mausoleum in memory of the day. President Khatami expressed satisfaction with the visiting the Mausoleum of Great Nizami, President Khatami left a record in the Mausoleum’s guestbook.
Later on, the Iranian leader met and warmly conversed with the city residents. He also visited Shah Abbas Mosque, a monument of XVII century, and immediately familiarized with the activity of Medrese functioning here.
On the 7th of August, the delegation of the Islamic Republic of Iran led by President Seyed Mohammad Khatami left for homeland. At the airport, the distinguish guest was seen off by first deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Yagub Yagubov, deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Iran Abbasali Hasanov, Ambassador of Iran to Azerbaijan Ahad Gazai and Gyanja city authorities.
