RUSSIA AND GEORGIA DISCUSS INTERSTATE RELATIONS IN MOSCOW
Prime Minister of Georgia Zurab Zhvania started on May 24 his working visit to Moscow met with Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov, AzerTAj correspondent leant from the Department of Information and Press of the RF Foreign Ministry. In the course of the meeting, the parties discussed the issues of Russia-Georgia cooperation in various spheres in order to realize agreements earlier reached by the two presidents. The parties stood for strengthening positive tendencies of interaction, in particular, in the fight against international terrorism. In this context, Z. Zhvania and S. Lavrov discussed the possibility of simplifying the visa regime between the two countries.
Russia-Georgia negotiations dealt with issues concerning the settlement of Georgian-Abkhazian and Georgian-South-Ossetian conflicts, preparation o f the draft Russia-Georgia agreement on basis of friendly relations and restoration of bilateral talks on military issues.
On the same day, Premier met with secretary of the Security Council of Russia Igor Ivanov. In the course of the meeting, I. Ivanov spoke of Russia’s interest in Georgian-Russian stable and good neighboring relations. Zurab Zhvania stated that the main purpose of his visit to Moscow is to strengthen the Georgia-Russia relations. He also stressed that many issues of bilateral relations will be discussed that will allow making positions of two countries closer.
