RUSSIA TO RATIFY AGREEMENT ON “CONVENTIONAL ARMAMENTS IN EUROPE”
Anatoly Antonov, director of the MFA department acting at the parliamentary hearings has stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, that ratification of the Contract equitable to interests of Russia and it is not necessary to delay this process. In his opinion, ratification of the mentioned contract would give a positive signal to the European supporters of the adapted Contract, and modes of data and information exchange established by the said agreement and exclude any significant trans-border airlift of techniques and arms.
The chairman who has acted at hearings of Committee of the Council of Federation on the international affairs Michael Margelov also has noted, that refusal of ratification of the agreement could create an unpredictable situation with conventional armaments in Europe and would remove the guarantee as the Contract from uncontrollable escalating conventional armaments on borders of Russia.
During the hearings, it was adopted a decision that the said agreement can be ratified by the State Duma at the end of June, and Council of Federation in the beginning of July.
It is necessary to remind that Azerbaijan is a state-participant of the Contract.
The said document has been signed in November 1990 and provides restrictions of accommodation of kinds of conventional armaments on territories of the European countries.
