The Moscow Public Foundation to support compatriots living abroad “Russians” held a press conference for media representatives.

Advisor to the Moscow Mayor, executive director of the foundation “Russians” updated the audience on the structure and activity of the Foundation. In particular, he noted that government of the Russian Federation has adopted a law “On Compatriots” that ensures equal rights for all the representatives of the Russian peoples and those living in former Soviet republics. The Foundation includes 46 countries and some 12 submitted applications. Branches of the Foundation “Russians” were opened in Riga and Baku.

The sitting of the Foundation will be held in June in Baku. The delegation will include ministers, small and medium businessmen who will discuss issues of finances and credits.

Keynoter at the press conference noted that B. Yeltsin approved the State Program on Support to compatriots and now it is supported by city administration of Moscow. Thus, about 1 million Azerbaijanis operate small and medium business in Russia. There are no conflicts at all there in Moscow ‘cause Moscow Azerbaijanis are given the same rights as to the Muscovites. Moscow Government has developed the overall program to support the Foundation until 2005 and allocated 500 million roubles to this effect.

Later, advisor dwelt on the program of the “Russians” Foundation that implies support to the veterans, medical aid to poor families, cultural exchange and protection of the Russian language.

Good news for those willing to enter Russian universities. School curriculums are organized for them through television, Internet, which will allow them taking exams and obtaining the Russian diplomas.

In conclusion, executive director of the Foundation Vitaliy Skrinnik and executive directors of the Azerbaijani branch Vagif Imanov and Shahlar Abdullayev responded to the journalists’ questions.
