South Carolina City of Greenville proclaims May 28 as Azerbaijan Independence Day

On the occasion of the 107th anniversary of the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, Knox H. White, Mayor of the City of Greenville of South Carolina, U.S., and members of the Greenville City Council, have signed a proclamation designating May 28 – as Independence Day of Azerbaijan in the City of Greenville.
The proclamation was presented to Adika Iqbal, head of the Azerbaijan Friendship Organization operating in the state.
The proclamation said: “The City of Greenville is proud to become a thriving Azerbaijani American community that has significantly enriched our city through contributions in the arts, music, business, finance, law, government, education, social services, science, and medicine.”
“The Azerbaijan Friendship Organization has tirelessly promoted cross-cultural understanding between Greenville and Azerbaijan, fostering meaningful connections,” the document mentioned.
“On May 28, 2025, Azerbaijani Americans will celebrate Azerbaijan Independence Day, commemorating the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic in 1918.
I, Knox H. White, Mayor of the city of Greenville along with members of Greenville City Council do hereby proclaim that May 28, 2025, is Azerbaijan Independence Day in the city of Greenville and on behalf of City Council encourage all citizens to participate in the celebration,” the document emphasized.
