SPEECH OF PRESIDENT OF GEORGIA MIKHAIL SAAKASHVILI
I have told today that in the Soviet times all nations were called brothers. Since the Union collapsed, however, majority of them have not so warm relationships. But Azerbaijan-Georgia relations, on the contrary, have strengthened and become closer.
I remember the time when they were trying to inflame ethnic tension in Georgia, and Azerbaijani were the only group of our citizens who defied that. It must be especially appreciated and emphasized.
Today, we are meeting a new leader who is very extraordinary for the post-Soviet space, meeting a reliable friend.
I do not think a friendship is impossible in politics, it has been proved by our friendship. Moreover, I would like to say, politics gives more opportunities for true friendship. Politics has given me a lot of friends also in Georgia, and I am happy that I have true friends in the international relations, as well, my brother Ilham Heydarovich, his family, you dear friends.
I want to propose my toast to our dear guests, President of Azerbaijan, his spouse, and to all who have come here, and to our friendship
