STATEMENT OF MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF THE REPUBLIC OF AZERBAIJAN
In this connection, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan states as follows:
“Coolness” in the Azerbaijan-Turkey relations is out of question. Azerbaijan Republic and Turkish Republic are strategic partners bound up with solid relations of brotherhood and good-neighboring based on centuries-old historical, cultural, linguistic and other ties.
The recent visit by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev to Turkey has once again graphically demonstrated the closest relationship between the two countries, and mutual support on all the issues of international and regional character. Good mutual understanding established between the two countries’ leaders indicates continuation of the successive political course pursued for the last decade.
In regard to the nonparticipation of the part of Azerbaijani deputies representing, as a matter of fact, all political spectrum of Azerbaijan Parliament in the debates over giving to representatives of the Turkish community of Cyprus the right to participate in PACE meetings, no positions of the Azerbaijani deputies and their statements reflect those of the Azerbaijani Government, and they cannot be considered as a change in political course between Azerbaijan and Turkey.
The Republic of Azerbaijan has always supported urgent and fair settlement of the Cyprus issue, and efforts by the United Nations, European Union, Council of Europe and other international organizations to find comprehensive and viable resolution of the problem.
