UNHCR holds training for State Migration Service staff

Within the framework of the Quality Initiative Project (QIEE Project), UNHCR office in Azerbaijan has organized a one day training on Evidence Assessment and Burden of Proof for the staff of the State Migration Service (SMS).
The training aimed to build and expand capacity of the SMS staff to improve the quality of the national refugee status determination procedures with an overall objective to strengthen the protection of refugees and asylum seekers.
The training sessions were facilitated by the UNHCR staff.
Azerbaijan is one of the six countries participating in the Asylum Systems Quality Initiative in Eastern Europe and South Caucasus, which was launched in April 2013. The project is implemented by UNHCR, and focuses on improvement of asylum procedures and refugee protection in six countries. Apart from Azerbaijan, the project covers, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
