VICE-SPEAKER OF RUSSIAN COUNCIL OF FEDERATION URGES CLOSER COOPERATION WITH AZERBAIJAN

Vice-speaker of the Council of Federation of the Russian Federal Assembly Dmitriy Mezentsev noted in his interview to AzerTAj reporter that the Russia-Azerbaijan relationship is very positively developed, and the two countries’ presidents set the mood, which therefore define the level of this relationship. The initiatives by the heads of state dispose to the necessity of closer contacts between the Russian regions and the Azerbaijan Republic, he said.

Mr. Mezentsev also pointed out the need to establish horizontal links, work at concrete partnership agreements, and development of all the documents signed by the heads of state.

The Vice-Speaker said as well that the cooperation within CIS is one of the multi-choice schemes of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia. Parallel with this, according to him, active development of large-scale bilateral cooperation is also very important. Any initiatives in this context are absolutely topical and fall into the general pattern of cooperation, he said.

Mr. Mezentsev, finally expressed the opinion that that the good and close Interparliamentary relations existing between the Milli Majlis and the Council of Federations could be even more intensive.
