First meeting of High-Level Working Group on Caspian Sea gets underway in Baku VIDEO

The first meeting of the High-Level Working Group on the Caspian Sea has kicked off in Baku involving representatives of the Caspian littoral states.
Addressing the event, Chief of Staff of the Cabinet of Ministers, Azerbaijan`s representative in the High-Level Working Group on the Caspian Sea Khalaf Khalafov said the meeting will discuss a number of issues arising from the “Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea” as well as the results of the Fifth Summit of the Heads of the Caspian littoral states held in Aktau.
Khalaf Khalafov noted that the meeting participants will also discuss the working procedures of the working group and ratification of the Convention by the legislative body of each member country. He noted that the meeting will also focus on the methodology of establishing state base lines for determining territorial waters in the Caspian Sea.
On August 12, 2018, the “Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea” was signed in Aktau, Kazakhstan, and the Communiqué of the Fifth Caspian Summit was adopted. Based on these documents, in order to effectively implement the Convention and review the issues of cooperation in the Caspian Sea, the High-Level Working Group on the Caspian Sea was established as a regular five-sided consultation mechanism consisting of authorized representatives of the Caspian littoral states.
