20th Eurasian Economic Summit gets underway in Istanbul

The 20th Eurasian Economic Summit has today kicked off in Istanbul, Turkey, organized by the Marmara Group Strategic and Social Research Foundation.
Azerbaijan State News Agency (AZERTAC) is a media partner of the Summit.
Azerbaijan is represented by a large delegation at the event.
The event participants include state and government officials, diplomats, representatives of international organizations, media and NGOs. The event featured a documentary on the activity of Marmara Group Strategic and Social Research Foundation. Multi-faceted activity of national leader Heydar Aliyev and President Ilham Aliyev was also highlighted in the film.
Chairman of Azerbaijan`s State Committee on Work with Diaspora Nazim Ibrahimov read out President Ilham Aliyev`s congratulatory message to the summit participants.
Azerbaijan's Energy Minister Natig Aliyev chaired the summit.
The event then heard a speech from Akkan Suver, president of the Marmara Group Foundation. He stressed the importance of the summit, pointing to the fact that the participants attach pivotal importance to development and progress, as well as to fight against separatism and terrorism. Akkan Suver hailed the importance of declaration of 2017 as the "Year of Islamic Solidarity" in Azerbaijan by President Ilham Aliyev. Describing Armenia's aggressive policy against Azerbaijan as an intolerable crime against international law and humanity, Akkan Suver urged the world community to ensure the withdrawal of the occupying troops from the Azerbaijani lands.
The event also heard speeches from Mehmet Şimşek, Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey, Asaf Hajiyev, Secretary General of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization, Ibrahim Çağlar, President of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce and Mustafa Gultepe, chairman of the Istanbul Ready-Made Garment Exporters' Association.
